This week we did a floral landscape using Sponges, Q-Tips and Toothbrushes. It was MESSY but fun. We used the paintings of artist Yvonne Coomber as our inspiration. Here is my video tutorial for this project.
SO SO BEAUTIFUL!!!! I felt so lifted and inspired when I saw these. WOW Can you give instructions on how you painted the background? Is it all sponges?? Canvas board? It looks like there is bleeding in the sky/sun. Acrylic paint? katherine
Hi Katherine, Thank you for the kind comments! We did use canvas panels and acrylic paints. They painted the backgrounds with a wash of pink, yellow and blue using sponge brushes. While the sky was still wet they blotted off the color with a damp sea sponge to leave a clean spot on the canvas for the sun. Once the background was mostly dry, they dabbed on yellow for the sun (the more wet the background, the more bleeding). Then they used tooth brushes with slightly watery paint for the splattering. And added dots of color with Q-tips for the flowers (smaller towards horizon and larger at the bottom for perspective). It was a really fun project. I am so glad you like it!
Thanks Rachel! The girls are all 8 to 12 years old (3rd to 7th grade). We only have about an hour and a half in class. I would have liked to have had another 15 min or so.

If you study at college or university, there is a huge probability that you will be assigned article review assignments in a variety of disciplines. Article reviews are not easy to cope with, so do not be ashamed to ask for professional help if you strongly need it.
