Mixed Media Nest - Kid's Art Class

I think this may be my favorite project.  The girls had a blast cutting up book pages.  I found an aged book that was already very brown so we didn't have to even add any extra color to the paper.

We talked about movement and the way the bird nest is sort of chaotic & criss-crossed in the center then becomes circular around the edges.  When they painted the background we used several colors of cream, raw sienna and gold.  Then they used pastels to add shading around the edges of the blue paper eggs they had cut out.  Once the background was dry, the book paper and eggs were mod-podged to the nest leaving the under-painting showing in places.  We also talked about layering the eggs so they had the right perspective.

NewYouTube Video! Acrylic Paintings by Angela Anderson

I thought it would be good to have a video of my portfolio.  When I found this song "Painting Pictures" by Adele I knew it would be perfect.  Hope you enjoy!

New Business Cards

I decided to update my business cards and use my photoshop program to do a collage of my paintings on the cards.   I had fun with it and did a vertical design filled with images from several different paintings.

I found some of the old cards to show how the design has changed over the last few years.  I may go back and do an image on the other side of the new cards like I did last year.  I really liked it and I ended up using that side to price things in several different shows.  So here is last year's design:

(back)

This design was actually one that I used for several years.  The header was on my website pages and promotional materials.  Most of the paintings in the header were created from 2005 to 2008, and all but the birches on the end are sold now.

"Sweet Beginnings" - Project Selvage/Spoonflower Fabric Contest Entry

Well, I made the deadline for Spoonflower's Project Selvage contest by the skin of my teeth!  This was a busy week, with birthdays and vacation.  But I managed to get some work done and finished my last minute fabric design change.

I decided the baby shoes just weren't quite right, so I switched themes to nests & birds. It's a familiar theme for me.  I did a different twist on it and decided to keep it very simple.  Just sketched lines with overlapping colored rectangles behind.  Here is the result.

New Nest Painting

Here is my newest nest painting. I wanted to experiment with a different colored background. It is a deep honey, amber color. The eggs have just a hint of blue in them. It is a nice combination I think. This one is being sold by the Arkansas Studies Institute Gallery that will be opening this Friday, May 8th, 2009.
