Kid's Summer 2011 Painting Class
Today was day 2 of my summer painting class for kids. The girls have been doing such a good job that I thought I would share some of their paintings. The first day we did a gerber daisy and today we did a simple landscape.

"Up Seems So Down" Album Cover- Part 2
I worked on the album cover some more today. I decided to change the font, so I took the words out for now and made the sky a darker red for more contrast with the moon. I also added some trees to make the landscape more obvious. Pine trees have an obvious direction, almost like arrows, so I think they work best for this kind of alternate up idea.
Here it is after I played with some fonts on PhotoScape. I love the double image.

"Up Seems So Down" Album Cover
I started working on a painting for an album cover today. Robb McCormick (aka Some Guy Named Robb) is releasing a new album in December called "Up Seems So Down". I'm really excited about working on this. The theme of the album is based on confusion. The moon is mentioned in some of the lyrics so I wanted to use it on the cover. The idea I had was to have the sun and moon swap positions in the sky. Moon at dawn, sun at night. Hopefully it will translate to canvas like I am picturing it!

New Painting Class
I will be teaching painting workshops during the week of July 12-16th. We will be completing three paintings: a simple landscape with poppies (similar to above), a still life and a modern abstract.
The adult class will be held from 7:30 - 9 pm, Monday - Friday, at Fellowship of Christians, Russellville, AR.
The kids class (for grades 3 and up) will be held from 1:00 - 2:30 pm Monday - Friday at Hobby Lobby in Russellville, AR.
Please contact me here or on my facebook page to reserve a spot. I will take up to 10 students in each class.
Cost for the series is $50 plus supplies (approx. $50).

Landscape Commission
I have been commissioned by a good friend to do a large 36"x48" painting of the Ozark. It will have a large tree overlapping the mountains. I am almost done with the background. I may play with the shading on the hills a bit more. Once I put the tree in I won't be able to adjust the mountains as easily so I want to be sure they are just right. I actually started it by covering the canvas in raw sienna. It leaves a beautiful cast to the sky and hills where it's visible.
I added the foreground trees today. I will do some more detail in the leaves, but the basic bones are there now.
I added some more highlights to the foreground tree today. Also added some detail to the yellow trees in foreground. I'm still not completely happy with them but I'm liking the red tree.
I worked on the lower foreground trees today and decided to bring them down to show more of the green hill. It was feeling a bit crowded at the bottom of the canvas. I like this much better.
